Jupiter, planet of Fortune, Luck and Success, and Venus – planet of Love, Harmony and Beauty – join each other once a year in the skies – and this is the time it happens!
Of all the planets’ conjunctions – this one, by far – is the best! Both for its visible beauty, and its astrological meaning.
How can we see it?
Not always the annual conjunction of Jupiter and Venus can be seen. Venus is very close to the Sun – second after Mercury – and therefore will always be seen in proximity to the Sun in the skies: either just before dawn, or just before sunset – depending on its location compared to the Sun. And on some occasions it will be so close to the Sun that it just cannot be seen. So sometimes the conjunction will be seen in the early morning, sometimes not at all, and at other times – like this lucky time – it will be clearly seen in the evening skies for about an hour or two after sunset, just before these two planets will set to the west- due to Earth’s movement.
If we look to the west, just where the Sun has just set, we can’t miss the two brightest stars, appearing before all the others even before dark, and continuing to be the brightest in the sky, before slowly setting in the west.
Venus is by far the biggest and most glowing star, and Jupiter is much smaller these days, not because if its actual size, but because of the fact it is now the furthest away from Earth it can be, while Venus is the closest!
If you follow the two you cannot miss the fact that night after night they will appear closer and closer to each other, till their full conjunction occurs around July 1. We do know that they are not really close in the skies, this is just the way it appears to us as we see the skies in a two-dimensional way. In reality, the two are a few light-minutes away from each other.
Jupiter’s and Venus’ conjunction begins this week (meaning they are only 5 degrees apart in the 360 degrees disk of the ecliptic plane – or the Zodiac). The full conjunction will occur on July 1 and they then will drift apart on July 16th.
By the way – Venus is going to retrograde from September 17th to October 10th, which means the two will actually conjunct again, but not in a visible way (it will be behind the Sun) and in a much less fortunate way astrologically-speaking, due to Venus retrogression.
